The development of the ATSC 3.0 digital TV standard, the world’s first IP-based over-the-air broadcast service, is the result of a cooperative effort of more than 125 member organizations from multiple industries. Broadcast equipment suppliers, including Dielectric, are among those organizations that drove the development process.
ATSC 3.0 paves the way for tremendous new business opportunities for the broadcaster, including mobile services, greater channel capacity, and targeted content (including advertising). Although an ATSC 3.0 system won’t necessarily require a wholesale change of equipment and infrastructure, some changes must occur. This may include changes to tower and tower site infrastructure, including antennas and RF systems.
In addition to Dielectric’s development work for this exciting new standard, Dielectric has heavily invested in research and development, design planning and engineering for ATSC 3.0 antenna and RF system equipment. The higher peak power levels present in ATSC 3.0 signals will require that broadcasters carefully assess their antenna and RF system needs.
Dielectric is proud to have contributed to an ATSC 3.0 Transition and Implementation Guide, along with many leaders in the broadcast industry. We encourage you to use the following link to learn more about ATSC 3.0.
